Early January Star Trail
Early January Star Trail Stacked image of a time lapse taken on the 12-13th January 2013. For the time lapse - see vimeo.com/57319766 This time lapse was taken with a non-optimal focal length (fairly long) due to location, which means shorter exposures than normal - 15 sec with 1 sec between. You can clearly see several plane tracks (straight lines that are at a different angle to the star trails) as well as one helicopter (the one that looks like a drunk plane :))

Time Lapse Stars
I'm currently working on a time lapse from the evening 30th April to 1st May. 571 images - will be just under 20 seconds long. Thought I'd do a star trail of them too - just for fun. The thick white bar on the right is the moon gradually moving out of shot. Taken from a viewpoint on Voksenkollveien in Oslo.

A Mountain Night
Star trail taken over a mountain hut in Buskerud, Norway. Made from 19 images f4 ISO 200 - set at 5 min image, 5 min 1 sec interval. Under testing - f2,8 was giving almost daylight on the ground, f5,6 was too dark. It should have been a far longer trail - the plan was for 5 hours worth - but at 4 hours I noticed that the moon was swinging round and nearly into shot - so I headed out and found that both the main battery and the battery grip battery had drained in the cold. A hazard of -10C photography :)

Neutral Density tests
10 stop ND filter. Post processing in Silver Efex Pro 2. Just testing ;)
Star Trail - test of longer exposures
27x4 min exposures on this one (first one using an external intervalometer) - with a 5 sec gap between each. f8, ISO 200. Not sure the pause is needed - and you can clearly see the gaps (have read that it allows the sensor to cool down - but those gaps in the trails are annoying).
Black headed gull in flight
This is as close as I can get with a 200mm plus 1,7 extender. Starting to practice getting birds in flight and guess what - it's hard ;) Would have preferred more of the underwing visible - but it flew past so fast. More practice needed.
Star Trail with Tree
Third attempt at a star trail. 83 images @f8/ISO400/30sec. The foreground lighting is from a single frame - a car drove past and the headlights lit the trees. Merged with starstax.net
Second star trail
Second attempt at a star trail. Longer (this one has 96 images @30 sec/ISO320/f13). Merged with starstax (starstax.net). Darker than the first attempt (less light pollution) and aimed right up at polaris rather than over a foreground.

Accidental bokeh
I'll have to admit to this one being a total accident - the lens wasn't seated properly and so didn't focus. That said - I wish I'd intended it - I like the effect it gave ;)
Sognsvann
Just playing with some odd settings at the extremes of their ranges - I get a dream association from this one ;)
Vestre Aker Kirke
Pushing HDR a little past where it starts showing as an effect - but I liked the result for this one.
Vestre Aker Kirke
The depth of field on this one is halfway between two places - not enough for the church but too much to isolate the middle row of gravestones (particularly the head). I still find it a pleasing composition even so.

Gaustad Sunrise - the #TwPhCh community edition
The fourth and final crop. This one is based on all the discussion on the one that was suggested by vipspips in the comments of the first and second shots (all still clear everyone?) - and I believe is as close as I am going to get to the image I saw for myself when standing at the busstop in the mornings. It's also the first one with a real edit made apart from exposure adjustments etc. A road sign has been removed. The description of the original shot: Taken as part of this weeks twitter photochallenge - #TwPhCh024 - Lys (light). But its a shot I've been meaning to take for a while now - I see it when I take the bus from nearby some mornings.

Just kicking ideas around for this weeks TwPhCh challenge - sound. Flash photography of metal makes for fun dealing with specularity.
Reflected sunset
Revisited in www.flickr.com/photos/chrissearle/8349642097/ - got fed up with those two cables on the top left.
Elizabeth's Lunch
Elizabeth's lunchbox for tomorrow. The egg is placed in a japanese egg press while still hot then cooled in place - so it takes and holds the form - in this case a rabbit (we also have a fish, a car and what I think is supposed to be a teddybear head). Food colouring has been added afterwards. The biscuits (dog and duck) are homemade oat/spelt biscuits. And on the cheese are small stamped out pieces of nori (seaweed). Sometimes I think my things are taken a little too far - but there is no doubt my kids love this kind of stuff.
Morten at work
Taken on the first Oslo TwPhCh meet. A chance shot. Taken as a "let's see what exposure the camera makes of this light". Slightly out of focus too in the detail. But - I do like the feeling in it - and given that I didn't really get any top shots - it'll do ;)
Rock stripes
Taken on the first Oslo TwPhCh meet. Reminder to self - check what aperture you're really on - don't see the 2 and think ah - 22 - 2,8 also starts with 2. *sigh* However - the formations in the rocks round Bygdøy/Huk are fascinating ;)

Hettemåke and biscuit
Kornmo biscuit for those who wonder :) One of those pics where you kick yourself afterwards. The ISO was way too high but I forgot to check it. Hence a noisy image. However - its one of those "the shot that got away" :) I'm impressed by the D700 follow focus too - now I'd like to try again but with a longer lens.
Stop/Go
Taken for the #twphch Twitter Photochallenge. A balance between a long enough exposure to allow the t-bane to move - short enough to fix the barriers. With the light available I chose to prefer the movement of the train - so the barriers are slightly moving (they bounce after they descend).

Trailer on Green Porth
Taken on an evening stroll in the fog. I find myself drawn to this image - perhaps due to the peace and quiet when I took it.
Dandelion clock
An object lesson in how the slightest breath of wind can ruin a macro shot :/
Kikut
An old picture taken on the slopes of Kikut in Nordmarka - which I find myself being more and more drawn to.
Gathering clouds
I quite liked the play of light on these clouds - picture is cropped but otherwise untouched. I did try this one in black and white - but felt that the colour version in fact worked better.

16 hours
We arrived home from the clinic today with our new son - this was taken 16 hours after he was born. Each time I look at this image I am amazed at how much expression and communication I can sense just from that half open eye. A wonderful feeling. Today really has been the perfect day for Mum, Dad and big sister too :) Perhaps not the best technical shot (very hard to hand-hold a macro lens in low light) - but - that said - I don't think I could find a better shot to express just how I feel right now.

Early morning at the beach
We have a hut near a lakes edge. This is taken from the sand at the edge of the water in the early morning (the wind is often at its lowest early on). Just makes me think of peaceful summer mornings :)
Bål
Coffee on a campfire. I'd love to go back, take this shot again without the ski-boot toe in the bottom :)
Skispor
Cross country ski-track over the marshes. I like this image - but the slope of the hill gives a strange horizon. I had to choose either the track and the trees or the horizon - and this was the result.
Furu
This pine is close to the mountain hut. Everyone who knows the area knows this tree - and it is often the focal point for photographers.
